SØDT is pronounced soot and is Danish for sweet. SØDT founder, Troels Bendix, is from Denmark where hygge (pronounced hoo-guh) is part of the national psyche. There is no direct English translation for hygge, the word derives from a sixteenth-century Norwegian word, hugga, meaning to ‘comfort’ or ‘console’ which is also where the English word ‘hug’ comes from. Hygge is a feeling of contentment and well-being found through simple things like friendship, laughter, food, warmth and light.
