The Terrace – Lower Street
Fittleworth, with its hamlets of Coates and Little Bognor, sits in a beautiful location within the South Downs National Park. Nearby Bedham and Egdean are partly within Fittleworth, and Stopham with its celebrated vineyard is a close neighbour.
Pulborough, just two miles east on the River Arun, is perhaps best know for Pulborough Brooks, a wonderful landscape of wildflower meadows, pools and newly restored heathland and a mecca for birdwatchers.
Three miles to the west is the lovely market town of Petworth. Its cobbled streets lead to a variety of independent shops with an emphasis on antiques. Leconfield Hall, once the town’s market hall, now offers films, live music and performance. The magnificent 17th century Petworth House and its 700 acre deer park are close by.

The South Downs from Sandy Lane
There are plenty of walks nearby with commons, woods and the river all within easy walking distance of Fittleworth Stores.
Hemsworth Common, 100 acres of woodland and open heath to west of the village, offers great walking and splendid views of the South Downs. To the south-east the smaller Fittleworth Common, also known as Wynkcoome Arboretum, is criss-crossed by footpaths and contains many fine specimens of unusual trees all identifiable by QR code.
The famous Serpent Trail passes through the village. Running from Haslemere to Petersfield, this beautiful 65 mile long trail winds through the purple heather, green woods and golden valleys of the Sussex greensand hills. The nearby 100 miles long South Downs Way National Trail follows the old routes and droveways along the chalk escarpment and ridges of the South Downs.
